Format 3, developed by Foo/Skou, presents an engaging interactive augmented reality experience that integrates physical artwork with virtual elements and soundscapes. This application allows users to immerse themselves in a captivating audio-visual journey whenever the Format 3 visuals are accessible. The seamless blend of the real and virtual worlds enhances the viewer's interaction with the artwork, offering a unique exploration of both dimensions.

Format 3 is an ongoing body of work by Danish artists Louise Foo and Martha Skou (FOO/SKOU) that explores how sound can be experienced across visual, physical, and virtual material. The early XR (extended reality) project was originally commissioned for the 2017 exhibition Sonic Arcade: Shaping Space with Sound at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and has since toured internationally.

At the center of the work is a graphic score composed of eighty-one symbols forming a musical alphabet. Using a custom app and spatial interfaces, visitors can activate the shapes to trigger tones, samples, and synthesis, transforming visual notation into a playable sound environment. The work draws on traditions of experimental music and graphic notation while extending them into spatial, tactile, and contemporary forms.
